Cultural Networks and Digital Transition

The investment includes the future preservation of works of art and of cultural heritage by upgrading the technological infrastructure of public cultural installations, supporting their digital transition. The investment aims to digitise 1,000 Portuguese films, of the cinematographic heritage in the possession of the Cinemateca Portuguesa, the public film archives. The films will be made available through in-theatre-projection via high-definition digital copy, television, streaming and VOD platforms, ensuring their preservation, the ability for them to be shown in the future and broadening their accessibility. This investment is being financed with EUR 10 million and will be completed by the end of 2025. It is part of other investments for the digital transition of culture, which has a total EUR 93 million of Recovery and Resilience Facility financing. Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa visited it in January 2023 as part of his roadshow of Recovery and Resilience Facility-supported projects.
