The objective of the project is to breathe new life into the cultural heritage of the castle, aiming to elevate the recognition of the region.

The focal point of the renovation efforts is the chapel of the castle. By revitalizing the Romanesque chapel, the project not only contributes to the preservation of historical elements but also fosters further research and development of knowledge about Romanesque cultural heritage. Additionally, the revitalized chapel is poised to enhance the tourist offerings of the castle, providing additional attractions such as hosting weddings, concerts, and more.

Financial support for this transformative initiative comes from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, contributing EUR 0.97 million to a project valued at EUR 1.51 million in total. The Municipality of Kozje plays a crucial role by providing the remaining funds, emphasizing the collaborative effort between national and local entities in the pursuit of cultural preservation and tourism development.

The Ministry of Culture formalized its commitment by signing a co-financing contract with the Municipality of Kozje in November 2022. Subsequently, in July 2023, the Municipality of Kozje completed the public procurement process to initiate the necessary construction works. The expected conclusion of the castle's renovation is set for October 2025.

In summary, the completion of this project is anticipated not only to revitalize the cultural heritage of the castle but also to contribute significantly to the region's recognition. The enhanced tourist offerings, combined with the preservation of historical elements, are poised to make the castle a vibrant cultural and historical destination by October 2025.
