Cultural experiences of the Jelšingrad Manor - Sustainable restoration and revitalisation of cultural heritage and public cultural infrastructure

The objective of the project is to reconstruct the Jelšingrad Manor, contributing to economic recovery, sustainable development, and cultural tourism. A key focus of the initiative is the revitalization of the manor house, addressing the current poor condition, with a particular emphasis on enhancing the economic and cultural aspects of the region.

The reconstruction of Jelšingrad Manor involves the rebuilding of the roof to rectify its current deteriorated state. Additionally, the revitalization plan encompasses the integration of new tourist attractions, with a noteworthy feature being a virtual reality experience designed to interpret and promote the rich cultural heritage associated with the manor.

Financial support for this ambitious project is provided through the Recovery and Resilience Facility, contributing EUR 1.06 million to a project valued at EUR 1.34 million in total. The Municipality of Šmarje pri Jelšah plays a crucial role by contributing the remaining funds, highlighting the collaboration between national and local entities in the pursuit of cultural restoration and economic revitalization.

Formalizing their commitment, the Ministry of Culture signed a co-financing contract with the Municipality of Šmarje pri Jelšah in November 2022. This partnership marks a significant step towards the anticipated conclusion of the castle's renovation by September 2025.

Beyond the structural improvements, the incorporation of a virtual reality experience aligns with modern technologies, offering visitors an immersive and educational encounter with the cultural heritage of Jelšingrad Manor. The completion of this project is poised to not only restore a valuable historical site but also contribute to the economic and cultural vibrancy of Šmarje pri Jelšah and its surrounding areas.
