Sport and Social Inclusion (Mission 5 - Component 3, Investment 7)

Italy's Recovery and Resilience Plan provides for the regeneration of urban areas focusing on sport facilities, in order to promote social inclusion and integration, especially in the most deprived areas of Italy.

The funded projects will support: (I) construction and regeneration of sports facilities, located in disadvantaged areas of the country including metropolitan suburbs; (II) the distribution of sports equipment for the disadvantaged areas; (III ) the completion and adaptation of existing sports facilities such as:(for examples: functional recovery, restructuring, extraordinary maintenance, removal of architectural barriers, and energy efficiency).

The investment is financed by Italy's Recovery and resilience plan by EUR 350 million.

The project envisaging the realization of a Multipurpose Indoor Sports Facility in Ragusa is part of this investment.

The construction will happen at the Citadel of Sports in c. da Selvaggio, an area located on the outskirts of the urban center of Ragusa.

The proposed intervention is aimed at achieving a greater availability of sports facilities to be allocated to the training of athletes registered with sports clubs in the area, the completion of an existing compartment already used for sports facilities, the expansion offered in terms of sports facilities available to citizenship.

In fact, the intervention envisages the construction of an indoor sports facility, without the presence of the public, intended for the training sessions carried out by the numerous sports clubs present in the area.

It will consist of three building bodies, the first intended for the sports disciplines of basketball and volleyball, the second intended for fencing, and the third intended for the services and locker rooms common to the first two.

The measures employed to achieve the goal are in the spirit of sustainability: the construction of low-consumption lighting systems, energy-saving thermal systems and photovoltaic panels for the exploitation of renewable energy.

The amount of NRRP funds is EUR 1.7 million and the construction site is open.
