Plan for nurseries and preschools and early childhood education and care services (Mission 4 – Component 1 - Investment 1.1)Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan includes an investment plan for the 0-6 age group, aimed at increasing the supply of childcare facilities by building, renovating and ensuring the safety of nurseries and preschools, to ensure an increase in the educational offer and the available slots for the 0-6 age group, and thus improve teaching quality. The measure is expected to encourage women’s participation in the labour market and support caregivers in reconciling family and professional life. The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 3.2 billion. The project envisaging the construction of a new school canteen in the Palazzello school is part of this investment. The target of the project is the construction of a new school canteen of an area of 350 square meters for the children of the elementary school "Palazzello" of Ragusa, which will allow the use of the service in question to the totality of children, through the division of the same into two groups. The Institute accommodates about 500 children, and at present it is able to guarantee the canteen service within the classrooms of the existing body, only to 10 % of the pupils. The new cafeteria space, with attached services, will be directly connected to the existing structure both through an internal connecting tunnel, as an extension of the school corridor, and from the outside, through a walkway covered by the roof canopy, accessible by stairs and pedestrian ramp for the purpose of eliminating architectural barriers. The measures taken to achieve the goal are the construction of an earthquake-resistant structure to be used as a school canteen developed with a view to high energy savings, paying special attention to finishing and insulation materials. The amount of NRRP funds is EUR 600,000 and the construction site is open.
