Plan for the extension of full-time (Mission 4 – Component 1 - Investment 1.2)Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan provides for the extension of school time in order to increase the educational offer of schools and make them open to the territory beyond school hours. The measure envisages the construction or renovation of canteen spaces for at least 1 000 structures to allow for the extension of school time. Extended schooling hours are expected to have a positive impact on the fight against early school leaving. The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 1 billion. The target of the project is the construction of a new school canteen of an area of 350 square meters for the children of the elementary school "Palazzello" of Ragusa, which will allow the use of the service in question to the totality of children, through the division of the same into two groups. The Institute accommodates about 500 children, and at present it is able to guarantee the canteen service within the classrooms of the existing body, only to 10 % of the pupils. The new cafeteria space, with attached services, will be directly connected to the existing structure both through an internal connecting tunnel, as an extension of the school corridor, and from the outside, through a walkway covered by the roof canopy, accessible by stairs and pedestrian ramp for the purpose of eliminating architectural barriers. The measures taken to achieve the goal are the construction of an earthquake-resistant structure to be used as a school canteen developed with a view to high energy savings, paying special attention to finishing and insulation materials. The amount of NRRP funds is 600,000.00 euros and the construction site is open.
