Complete renovation of Ormož Castle - Sustainable restoration and revitalisation of cultural heritage and public cultural infrastructure

The project's objective is to renovate Ormož Castle and its surroundings, aiming to promote the cultural heritage of this historical site and elevate it to the status of a recognized tourist destination. The allocated funds will be utilized to revitalize one of Slovenia's oldest castles, fostering cultural appreciation and attracting visitors to experience its rich historical significance.

The comprehensive renovations will extend to various elements of the castle, including the defence tower, castle clocks, and bells, ensuring the preservation and enhancement of these integral components of the historical structure. Beyond the castle walls, the project encompasses the redesign and replanting of the park surrounding the castle, creating an inviting space that brings cultural heritage closer to visitors.

Financial support for this transformative initiative is provided by the Recovery and Resilience Facility, contributing EUR 1 million to a project with a total value of EUR 1.6 million. This collaborative funding approach emphasizes the joint commitment of national and local stakeholders to the restoration and promotion of Ormož Castle.

The Ministry of Culture formally solidified its support by signing a co-financing contract with the Municipality of Ormož in December 2022. This partnership signifies a coordinated effort to ensure the successful conclusion of the castle's renovation by September 2025.

The completion of this project is poised not only to restore and preserve the historical integrity of Ormož Castle but also to position the location as a vibrant and culturally significant tourist destination. The redesigned surroundings and enhanced visitor experience are expected to contribute to the broader cultural and touristic appeal of the Municipality of Ormož and its historical gem.
