Capitoline Museums – Centrale Montemartini Museum

Removal of physical and cognitive barriers in museums, libraries and archives to enable wider access and participation in culture  (Mission 1, Component 3, Investment 1.2)

Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan provides for the removal of architectural, cultural and cognitive barriers in a number of Italian cultural institutions. Interventions shall be combined with training for administrative staff and cultural operators, promoting a culture of accessibility and developing expertise on legal aspects, reception, cultural mediation and promotion.

The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and resilience plan by EUR 300 million.

As part of this investment, the project aims to make the Capitoline Museums more inclusive by improving accessibility and enhancing the visitor experience for all. Key interventions include redeveloping the external area with tactile flooring and protective barriers, expanding pedestrian zones by removing private parking, upgrading the square with traditional paving and urban furniture, and renovating restrooms to accommodate disabled visitors and families. These improvements will promote accessibility, safety, and integration with the surrounding area, contributing to the museum’s image as a welcoming cultural hub for everyone.

This project is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility with EUR 500.000,00.
