VTT has established research openings in three thematic areas to find solutions for phasing out dependency on fossil fuels:Electricity storage and accelerating clean energy Energy efficiency and decarbonization of industryRenewable hydrogen economyThe aim is to increase expertise and develop solutions to address bottlenecks related to the green transition, such as the adequacy of electricity storage capacity, availability of critical materials and safety challenges in the use of hydrogen.Activities consist of 15 thematic research projects, RePowerEU Postdoc & PhD Programme and extension of Clean Energy Pilot Infrastructure. Altogether 22,8 M€ RRF funding have been granted for implementation of these activities. 14,4 M€ of the support is dedicated for thematic research projects, 3,4 M€ for extensive Postdoc & PhD Programme to acquire new expertise in these research fields and to hire top experts from both Finland and abroad.5 M€ of the support is dedicated to Bioruukki Clean Energy Pilot infrastructure to cover part of VTT's total investments (21. 3 M€). The REPowerEU funding is dedicated to construction works and pre-settings of research equipment for hydrogen and emission-free transport for clean energy testing and piloting. The infrastructure will be used for research and development projects important to industry, such as in hydrogen technologies, reducing industrial carbon footprint, transport and energy storage.
