Biogenic process steam generation Voitsberg

This project aims to replace the majority of natural gas with biomass for the provision of process steam at the Voitsberg dairy site. Specifically, an average of 70% of the natural gas consumption in 2023 amounting to 23,850,000 kWh per year in the applicant's dairy production is to be replaced by biomass in the form of wood chips.

In order to achieve this target, the company plans to invest in a new heating plant with a biomass-fired process steam boiler and fuel storage facility and to integrate it into the existing process steam system. Due to the large fluctuation range of steam consumption during ongoing dairy operations, a steam storage tank with a capacity of approx. 30 m³ is planned. The annual greenhouse gas emission savings are expected to amount to 1,813 tons after project completion. The project is currently in the construction phase.
