BioFit STEP 2

Sappi Austria is implementing the “BioFit Step 2” project as part of its energy roadmap for complete decarbonization. The aim is to operate the largest of its industrial boilers at the Gratkorn site in Styria emission-free and to switch from natural gas to biomass as the main fuel to heat this boiler. 

As heating the boiler with biomass is not completely possible yet for reasons of scalability, the existing infrastructure must be expanded.

Greenhouse gas emissions are expected to be reduced by approx. 19,900 tons per year. The project is currently in the construction phase.
