Public consultation to establish the priority list of network codes

Public consultation to establish the priority list of Network codes

The European Commission has opened a targeted consultation of relevant stakeholders on the priorities for the development of network codes and guidelines for the period 2020-2023 for electricity and for 2020 for gas. Input on priorities beyond these time horizons is also welcome.

The Commission has identified two key areas, in the electricity sector, where new network codes could be required and contribute to achieve the goals set out in the European Green Deal.

  • Cybersecurity: Sector-specific rules for cyber security aspects of cross-border electricity flows should allow the electricity networks to address potential cyber threats so that clean energy is fit for the digital age.
  • Demand Side Flexibility, to facilitate the cost-effective large-scale integration of renewable energy sources, as well as the market access and operator of new market players, such as active consumers and independent aggregators.

Responses to this consultation on the priority lists for network codes and guidelines for the period 2020-2023 for electricity and for 2020 for gas should be submitted by 14 April 2020.
