National stakeholders dialogues - energy for the European Green Deal

stockholm city

The Directorate-General for Energy is organising, together with the EC Representations in EU countries, a series of on-line stakeholder dialogues to discuss around the European Green Deal, and more specifically on how energy policy can contribute to achieving a climate-neutral Europe by 2050. These dialogues will offer the opportunity to national stakeholders from the energy sector and civil society to exchange on topics relevant for the upcoming “fit for 55 package”,  which aims to reduce emissions by at least 55% by 2030, together with representatives from the Commission.

The first in the series of dialogues took place in Stockholm, Sweden on 20 May 2021 with the Head of Representation Christian Danielsson and the Head of Communication at DG Energy in Brussels, Pierre Schellekens as speakers. The event focused on how the revision of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Directive could contribute to the EU’s new climate target of reducing emissions by 55%. The stakeholders, some 20 from all strands of the Swedish economy, were generally supportive of a higher level of EU ambition, but raised concerns notably on biomass and hydropower.

Four similar events are scheduled in June and July, taking place in Germany, Bulgaria, Poland and Slovenia. Another set of dialogues – in other European countries - is foreseen in autumn 2021.
