Submissions for the second stage of the last Horizon 2020 ‘Science with and for Society’ two-stage call closed last week, on 17 November.

145 proposals were submitted to the first stage of the SwafS 2020 two-stage call, with a submission deadline in April. From those, 19 were invited to the second stage and have submitted a full proposal, requesting a total budget of €29.92 million, four times the total budget available of €7.5 million.

The majority of the proposals are on the topic “Open schooling and collaboration on science education”. The funded projects under this topic should focus on the creation of new partnerships in local communities to foster improved science education for all citizens, specifically where various different actors are involved (schools, families, policy-makers)

The remaining proposals fall under the topic of “Science education outside the classroom” and should gather knowledge on good practices within science education outside the regular classroom and evaluate their impact.

The remote evaluations are expected to start in the beginning of December and the applicants will be informed on the outcome of the evaluation by mid-March 2021. The grant agreements with the successful applicants are expected to be signed by mid-July 2021, and initiate their research thereafter.
