The annual EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) takes place in Brussels between 17-21 June. This year’s events promise to be even bigger than in recent years following the theme ‘Shaping Europe’s energy future’, with around 3,000 stakeholders and speakers gathering in Brussels to attend over 90 sessions.
Discussion is expected to be as lively as ever. Since last year’s session, the EU has finalised a new energy policy framework “the clean energy for all Europeans” package and published a long-term strategy “A Clean planet for all” outlining the objective to be carbon neutral by mid-century. In addition to this, the session comes shortly after the European elections, where climate change issues were a recurring theme.
The central event is the 3-day policy conference (18-20 June), with a keynote speech by EU Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete and the annual EU Sustainable Energy Awards ceremony. Awards will be allocated in four categories - Engagement, Leadership, Innovation, Youth. This year’s Awards Ceremony will also feature a special category for Eastern Partnership countries and the final award – Citizens’ Award – is decided by a public vote! Choose your winner from this year's 12 energy projects!
Complementing the Policy Conference, the Networking Village provides an open forum with more than 100 unique networking opportunities - insightful presentations, exciting project pitches and interactive exhibitions – all aimed at fostering partnerships, boosting investments and developing innovative business ideas.
In addition to these events in Brussels, a number of Energy Days are organised all over Europe throughout the months of May and June, giving citizens and businesses the opportunity to discover the latest developments in sustainable energy.
The EU Sustainable Energy Week focuses on activities to build a secure energy future for Europe. It brings together public authorities, private companies, NGOs and consumers to promote initiatives to save energy and move towards renewables for clean, secure and efficient power.
Launched in 2006, it is organised by the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) in close cooperation with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy.
