EU as observer in the East Mediterranean Gas Forum

Ministers of the Members of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) have welcomed the European Union as an official permanent observer to the EMGF. The decision was taken at a meeting this week (6 July).

The new status demonstrates the EU’s continued commitment to promoting regional stability and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean region, including through positive and inclusive regional cooperation.

The EU recognises the objectives of the EMGF and is ready to engage with EMGF and its members to enable and enhance a structured dialogue on natural gas, but also to address the clean energy transition, including renewable gas production, in line with the fight against climate change and the European Green Deal.
