IRENA is the International Renewable Energy Agency, tasked with promoting the worldwide uptake of renewable energy. On 10-12 January the 10th session of the IRENA Assembly will take place in Abu Dhabi, and European Commissioner for Energy policy Kadri Simson, will attend the proceedings. In addition, she will hold a number of bilateral meetings with regional and global partners to discuss the current geopolitical situation in the region and the impacts on energy security. The IRENA Assembly brings together Heads of State and Government, Energy Ministers and heads of international and regional organisations, public and private entities and civil society representatives. The main objective of the Assembly is to intensify global efforts to deploy renewable energy, and to discuss their impact on the energy transformation and sustainable development. Kadri Simson will deliver opening remarks to the full Assembly and participate in a ministerial roundtable on green hydrogen on Saturday. In the evening, she will attend a ministerial dinner. On Sunday, the Commissioner will participate in an Atlantic Council panel discussion on geopolitics and energy security and meet youth leaders to discuss the European Green Deal. In parallel, the 9th EU Energy Day takes place in Abu Dhabi on 13th January, as part of the EU side events at the World Future Energy Summit. The new policy proposals under the European Green Deal will be discussed. The event is an occasion for European research institutions and innovative cleantech companies to share knowledge and expertise with international partners and give networking opportunities to businesses, innovators and investors.
