Commissioner Günther Oettinger visits Baku

On 20 February 2019, European Commissioner Günther H. Oettinger, in charge of Budget and Human Resources, paid a one-day-visit to Baku to attend the Fifth Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council.

Within the framework of the visit, Commissioner Günther H. Oettinger signed the Joint Declaration on the South Gas Corridor and made press statements jointly with the Energy Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Parviz Shahbazov, with the participation of the Heads of Delegations attending the Advisory Council Meeting.

Commissioner Oettinger welcomed the signature of the Joint Declaration of the Fifth Ministerial Meeting of the Advisory Council of the Southern Gas Corridor "as an important step for the further diversification of energy sources and routes in Europe. The partners should make best use of the new infrastructure and envisage to at least double its capacity as soon as possible."

In the margins of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Meeting, the Commissioner had bilateral meetings with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the Minister of Energy Mr. Parviz Shahbazov, the BP Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye Regions Mr. Gary Jones, as well as with the Energy Minister of Türkiye Fatih Dönmez, and the Energy Minister of Bulgaria Ms Temenuzhka Petkova.
