Implementation dialogue on the application of the Political Advertising Regulation with Commissioner Michael McGrath

Public debates
Implementation Dialogue Commissioner McGrath

Commissioner Michael McGrath is hosting an Implementation Dialogue on the application of the Political Advertising Regulation on 4 November in Brussels.

The dialogue allows stakeholders to exchange views with the Commissioner and share initial experiences with the application of the Political Advertising Regulation. The implementation dialogue is also exploring measures to support, facilitate and improve its application as well as fostering exchange on its added value.

The summary conclusions and list of participants from the Implementation Dialogue will be available on this page and on the website dedicated to implementation dialogues.

Objective

As outlined in the European Democracy Shield, the Political Advertising Regulation provides common transparency standards across the EU that help safeguarding the integrity of key democratic processes, including electoral, legislative and regulatory processes, and support an open, transparent and accountable democratic debate.

One year after the Regulation has started to apply, the Commission is organising an Implementation Dialogue to discuss initial experiences and identify measures to support, facilitate and improve its application, as well as to exchange on its added value. Building on ongoing work, this Dialogue explores remaining gaps and gathers feedback on additional actions needed to ensure smooth and effective implementation.

The discussion is structured around three themes:

  • Strengthening legal clarity and added value
  • Facilitating compliance
  • Increasing efficiency

Participants

The event is upon invitation only, and in person.

Participants represent stakeholders involved in the application of the Regulation, including providers of political advertising services, sponsors, and interested entities, as well as other relevant stakeholders such as national competent authorities and academics.

Background

President von der Leyen tasked all Commissioners to organise two Implementation Dialogues per year to align implementation with realities on the ground. The implementation dialogues aim to strengthen European competitiveness by seeking feedback from stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of EU policies and the simplification of EU rules and spending programs.
