The event was hosted by the European Parliament Office in Athens. Opening remarks were provided by the Head of the European Commission Representation in Greece, Mrs. Niovi Ringou, the Alternate Minister of National Economy and Finance, Mr. Nikos Papathanasis, and Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs, Declan Costello. The event held two panel discussions, the first discussing competitiveness priorities for the EU and Greece and the second a “clean industrial deal” for Greece and the EU. Closing remarks were provided by Johannes Luebking of the European Commission's Task Force on Reform and Investment (SG REFORM). The Commission emphasised it is responding to competitiveness challenges with the Competitiveness Compass, with detailed policies being rolled out. The Commission also emphasised Greece should accelerate implementation of the RRP ahead of the 2026 deadline, which will strengthen Greek competitiveness through boosting productivity, increasing flexibility of energy markets, and other structural reforms and investments.
