Limiting methane emissions in the energy sector

Videoconference on energy-related methane emissions

  • Conferences and summits

The European Green Deal identifies energy-related methane emissions as an important issue requiring an accelerated initiative from the European Commission.

To better understand the nature and size of the problem within the EU, the European Commission launched a study in 2019 on limiting methane emissions in the energy sector which aims to:

  • Identify the way in which methane emissions are presently measured
  • Identify the main knowledge gaps that need to be addressed and, where possible, fill those gaps
  • Identify potential hotspots
  • Provide recommendations on how to improve measurement, monitoring and detection through better methods
  • Provide an assessment of existing policies and voluntary industry initiatives to address methane emissions from around the world and recommend actions for the EU

The work is being led by Wood (Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions GmbH) and is delivered together with TNO (The Netherlands Organisation for applied scientific research), Carbon Limits and The Sniffers and the results of the study will serve as an input to the EU strategic plan for methane.

At this event, the contractor will present and discuss the preliminary findings of the study with stakeholders in the energy sector.

If you would like to register for the event please complete the form in this link.

The event will be hosted on Webexand participants will have the possibility to ask questions during the event using Slido https://app.sli.do/event/kb288r6b event code #E469.
