Carlos García Vico is an experienced interpreter at the Directorate-General for Interpretation of European Commission. He has a BA in Translation and interpretation (UAB Barcelona) and MA in interpretation (La Laguna University).Passionate about technology, he participates regularly in DG Interpretation’s tests of new developments in the IT and New Technologies field. He is the department’s M365 Top Champion and occasional trainer of colleagues in the use of new digital tools. He has many years experience in pedagogical assistance and, during the pandemic, he contributed to finding new ways of keeping the collaboration with universities during the travel ban periods, using remote tools with innovative solutions. He believes in learning by doing. In the field of AI, his approach from the user front focuses on analyzing in practical terms what AI can contribute to the excellence of the work performed by interpreters and to new talent development. He does not shy away from trying new things, but he is very critical of the practical value that digitization can bring to his work, focusing on real contributions and keeping a realistic expectations approach.
