ResponsibilitiesThe Internal Audit Service (IAS) is an independent central service in the European Commission led by the Commission’s Internal Auditor. The mission of the IAS is to strengthen the ability of the European Commission - as the executive of the European Union and as a modern, accountable and performance-oriented institution – to create, protect, and sustain public value, by providing the Institution with independent, risk-based, and objective assurance, advice, insight, and foresight. Our core role is to provide the Commission with assurance over effectiveness of governance, risk management and control processes. The Internal Audit Service assesses the suitability and effectiveness of internal management systems, the performance of departments in implementing policies, programmes and actions, and the efficiency and effectiveness of the budget implementation control systems. The IAS audits over 50 European Commission departments, executive agencies and European offices. It also serves as internal audit function to over 50 autonomous EU entities, including European External Action Service, European Data Protection Supervisor, decentralised EU agencies, joint undertakings, and some other bodies receiving contributions from the EU budget.Through our work, we contribute to providing public value and to the achievement of the high-level political ambitions and objectives of the von der Leyen Commission, and thus to increasing public confidence in the European Union.
