DIGIT leads the digital transformation of the Commission. It provides strategic advice and resilient and secure digital services to Commission departments and other EU institutions and agencies. It also helps European public administrations work better together. Directorate A drives and coordinates the development and implementation of digital transformation principles, policies and projects. As a single-entry point to DIGIT’s expertise, it coordinates the provision of strategic and tactical advice to all Commission departments, while also supporting the streamlining of the IT landscape, assisting the work of the IT governance bodies, and supplying corporate digital solutions. Within DIGIT, the Director of DIGIT.A is responsible for the overall strategic orientation and management of the Directorate and to lead the process whereby DIGIT provides strategic and tactical advice to Commission departments on their digital transformation and identification of IT solutions to their business needs. This is within the framework set by the Director-General's mission statement and annual work programme. The Directorate provides solutions for several Commission departments, with a specific focus on corporate solutions. As part of the Senior Management Team of DIGIT, and in close cooperation with DIGIT’s other directors, the Director of DIGIT.A contributes to the evolution and implementation of the overall DIGIT strategies and operations as well as of the Digital Strategy of the Commission. The Director represents DIGIT and its Director-General in external and internal events and is the external face of the Commission’s operational activities in the area of digital transformation. Candidates should have: Management skills Solid experience in effective planning and management of human resources (large multinational, multilingual and multicultural teams) and budgets (in particular, understanding standard cost models and mechanisms of cost distribution, reporting and accountability); Proven capacity to lead, direct and motivate a large, constantly changing team of highly competent IT and administrative professionals; excellent management skills and ability to lead a service-oriented organisation in a multicultural environment; In depth experience with and knowledge of digital transformation principles, policies and projects; The capacity to develop and maintain excellent relationships with other services in the Commission, with other EU Institutions, bodies and agencies; Proven experience in addressing the challenges caused by new ways of working, both from an organisational perspective and from its implications on the digital transformation of a public administration. Specialist skills and experience Proven understanding and ability to address the challenges facing large organisations during a digital transformation process; Experience with IT governance and large-scale digital solutions; Experience with a strategic IT advisory role within a large organisation; The know-how to set the technological and service strategy of the Directorate and to guide procurement actions in a cost-efficient way in close cooperation with other directorates and Commission departments; Good understanding of the Commission’s policies and strategic goals as well as its decision-making process; Ability to identify action plans, in particular from a digital transformation process angle; Experience in EU-level digital transformation would be an additional asset; Relevant qualifications in IT and related fields such as security, risk management, audit, etc. would be an additional asset.
