Many languages, one Europe
26 September has been the European Day of Languages (EDL) since 2001. It is jointly organised by the Council of Europe and the European Commission.
The aim is to:
- raise awareness of the wide variety of languages in Europe
- promote cultural heritage & linguistic diversity
- encourage people of all ages to learn languages
- promote translation, interpretation, other language-related professions.
European Day of Languages 2024
The European Day of Languages is a well-established opportunity to raise awareness about language learning and linguistic diversity.

- European Day of Languages across EU: 1-30 September - multilingual mini language courses, online quizzes, translation workshops, language fairs, travelling book exhibitions and many more events were organised in all 27 EU countries.
