Responsibilities
The Directorate-General for Budget (DG BUDG) manages the EU budget and ensures that it is used responsibly, transparently and in line with the Union’s priorities. It helps shape both the long-term EU budget and the annual budgets, working closely with other Commission departments, EU institutions and Member States.
DG BUDG also plays a central role in making sure that EU funding supports key policy goals – such as the green and digital transitions, a stronger economy, and solidarity with Ukraine – while maintaining sound public finances. Its mission is to ensure that every euro from the EU budget delivers concrete results and real value for people across Europe.
