Page contents Page contents The Competitiveness Coordination Tool or CCT aims to develop and strengthen strategic industrial value chains with EU added value, across Member States, to build a more competitive, prosperous and independent Europe. A novel and innovative way of working is being tested under the CCT, joining forces between the EU, Member States and industry, to swiftly deploy major investment projects and deliver critical reforms to make these investments happen. The EU is investing in critical sectors: from building AI Gigafactories to improving medical technology to offer better and cheaper patient care for citizens. The EU is also improving energy connections across Europe, making the battery value chain more resilient, creating lead markets for bio-based materials, and helping address the housing crisis in the EU. AI Gigafactories Deploy several AI Gigafactories (AIGF) across the EU to train, run inference and deploy the most advanced AI models and solutions.Impact: Crucial infrastructure backbone for truly European and sovereign AI ecosystem.Funding: Mobilising €20 billion. EU funds available for upcoming call for tender, with EIB involvement. Member States encouraged to leverage national funds with Recovery and Resilience Facility and cohesion funds.Actions: Overwhelming response to the non-binding call for expression of interest (77 expressions of interest to set up AIGF in 16 Member States across 60 sites), formal call for tender (summer 2026), start of construction of first AIGFs (2027).Read more© AdobeStock / IM Imagery Clean Transport Corridors Accelerate the construction of a reliable network of charging stations along the most heavily used corridors to support the deployment of electric truck transport.Impact: First funding already delivered 20% of the EU minimum target for charging stations (over 400 sites).Funding: Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility, cohesion funds, national and private sources.Actions: European map for deployment of charging stations and a ministerial declaration with reforms including access to the energy grid (September 2025); first financing for 54 charging stations (June 2025); plan for additional 350 stations by 2030; roadmap of supportive actions.Read more© AdobeStock Battery Booster Strengthen the European electric battery value chain.Impact: Additional €365 billion to EU GDP and create 170,000 jobs by 2030.Funding: €1.8 billion including €1.5 billion via the Battery Booster Facility provided via interest-free loans to support European battery-cell producers during the ramp-up phase. €300 million on offer for critical raw materials. Member States encouraged to use cohesion funds.Actions: Create pan-European impact across the value chain including via financing for other projects that develop recycling and reuse of battery materials.
