The EU participates at the UN Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNFCC every year. At previous conferences, the EU has helped contribute to defining key climate change mitigation milestones, targets and agreements.
About the conference
As part of its efforts towards achieving global climate neutrality, the European Commission takes part in the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Since 1995, the United Nations Climate Change Conferences bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
EU’s contribution at COP
The EU participates in the COP every year, playing a leading role in shaping global climate action. Over the years, the EU has contributed to key milestones and agreements, including
reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 43% by 2030
accelerating the transition away from fossil fuels this decade
encouraging major emitters to set new emission reduction targets
establishing new funding to assist developing countries that are particularly affected by climate change
proposing new rules to boost international carbon markets
The EU remains committed to its climate neutrality goal and to delivering on the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye
The 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31) is taking place from 9 to 20 November 2026 in Antalya, Türkiye.
It will bring Parties together to advance climate action and work towards long-term climate targets.
COP31’s priorities include electrification, zero waste, food security, resilient cities, green industrialisation, youth participation, health and education.
