Meetings of governing bodies of the Withdrawal Agreement (new)

The governance structure of the EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement is based on a Joint Committee that oversees the implementation of the agreement, and a dispute settlement system that involves referral to an independent arbitration body if a dispute is not resolved between the two parties. The Joint Committee can take binding decisions regarding the implementation of the agreement, as long as they are agreed by both the UK and the EU.

The Joint Committee is jointly chaired by the UK and the EU, currently by Vice-President of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič and UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, and is supported by specialised committees on various issues, such as citizens’ rights, financial provisions, and the Windsor Framework. A Joint Consultative Working Group provides additional technical support for the implementation of the Windsor Framework. It is composed of representatives of the UK and the EU, and reports to the Specialised Committee on Ireland/Northern Ireland.

A number the thematic subgroups within the Joint Consultative Working Group were set up through the Windsor Framework.
