Promoting equal opportunities

The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) is a European agency that works to promote and ensure equal opportunities for women and men across Europe and beyond through quality evidence for better policy making. It delivers high quality research and information to support European institutions and countries in their efforts to end gender inequalities.

EIGE’s home is in Vilnius, Lithuania and has around 50 staff from almost 20 different nationalities.

Actions and initiatives

The Gender Equality Index measures the progress of gender equality in the EU (work, money, knowledge, time, power, health, violence against women and intersecting inequalities).

The Gender Statistics Database collects comparable information and shows key trends in gender equality progress in the EU.

The Gender Mainstreaming Platform offers a range of resources tackling gender inequalities in all areas of society, from agriculture to sport, with good practices in a variety of fields.

The Gender Equality Glossary and Thesaurus features over 400 gender-sensitive definitions, including explanations for terms related to gender-based violence.
