DepartmentEuropol Responsibilities EC3 specialist in prevention and awareness, Europol Biography Sónia Martins is a Specialist in Cyber Offender Prevention (COP) at the European Cybercrime Centre (EC3), where she leads the prevention and awareness strategy for EC3 and implements COP interventions under operations supported by Europol. Prior to this role, she served as Chief of the Cybercrime Unit at Portugal’s Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) from its creation in 2020 until July 2024, spearheading Portugal’s early efforts in Cyber Offender Prevention. She contributed to the implementation of the first Google Ads campaign focused on DDoS attacks and the initial rollout of the re_B00TCMP project in Portugal. She also played a key role in Portugal’s adhesion to the International Cyber Offender Prevention Network (InterCOP) in 2022, as co-leader of the project. Sónia began her career in the Portuguese police in 2007, working in various units in Lisbon and participating in two United Nations missions (peacekeeping and capacity building missions). She holds a Master’s degree in Police Sciences and Homeland Security and a Bachelor’s degree in Social and Organizational.
