Shauna Doherty has been head of the English language unit in the Translation Service of the General Secretariat of the European Council since April 2021. Before that, she was the unit’s quality coordinator for 7 years, after working 14 years as a linguist there. Previously she worked as a translator at the European Economic and Social Committee and as a freelance interpreter. Throughout her career in the EU institutions, particularly in the roles of quality coordinator and head of unit at the Council, Shauna has been an active advocate of clear language. In 2018, she co-authored the General Secretariat’s inclusive communication guide, and since autumn 2023, she has been a member of the EU’s interinstitutional working group on clear language.
