Details Publication date21 November 2019AuthorDirectorate-General for Communication Description A study was conducted by Deloitte Consulting and Coffey International on behalf of the European Commission to evaluate the effectiveness of the corporate communication approach to European Commission communication. The study aimed to determine whether the new approach had been successful, given the current political climate with conflicting messages and a need for improved communication. The study confirmed that communicating about the EU is a shared responsibility between EU institutions and Member States at all levels and recommended that EU institutions work together more closely on EU corporate communication campaigns based on shared European values. The study also suggested that EU institutions and Member States increase their support for continuous dialogue with citizens about the European Union. The results of the study will help the Commission improve its communication approach, set EC-wide benchmarks and guidelines for external communication, provide advice to the new College of Commissioners on communication with citizens, and ensure transparency and accountability to stakeholders. The study is significant because the Commission is currently undergoing changes, including a new President and Commission taking office and discussions around a new Multiannual Financial Framework.
