In 2014, the Commission launched 893 new procedures by sending a letter of formal notice. The Commission also sent 256 reasonedopinions to EU countries during 2014. At the end of 2014, 1,347 infringement cases remained open. In addition, there was a significantincrease in new late transposition infringement cases in 2014 (585) compared with the previous year - 2013 (478).
