The investment consists of a support scheme for households to replace fossil-fuelled heating systems by renewable heating technology such as biomass-based heaters, heat pumps or connectors to district heating.

The ultimate goal is to reduce heating-related energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. It is financed by both Austria’s state budget and the Recovery and Resilience Facility (EUR 159 million).

Since the start of the programme “Raus aus Öl” in 2021, more than 31.800 fossil heating systems have already been replaced, meaning that the planned target for this milestone (31.800 projects) has been satisfactorily met.

For the subset of 31.800 projects in this milestone, an additional capacity of 544,84 MW from renewable sources has been installed, and 506.253.994 kWh/a were saved.
