More collective action needed to speed up the digital transition

The first report on the state of the Digital Decade shows that we need to accelerate and deepen our collective efforts to bring forward Europe’s digital transition. Key to achieving this are cooperation between Member States, the adoption of policy measures, and further investments.

The report shows that digital skills have to be at the centre of EU and Member States’ actions. We need reforms to educate, attract, and retain talent. We need to ensure that digital public services are accessible to all, and to provide everyone with the necessary tools to benefit from the digital transformation. This includes high-speed mobile coverage everywhere, online access to health records, and the use of eIDs.

The report puts forward concrete recommendations, particularly how to close investment gaps and to speed up the digital transformation. The Commission will work hand in hand with Member States to move forward and reach our common goals.
