On 15 July, Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will be in the Netherlands to visit the Eastern Scheldt tidal plant, an innovative project which displays the EU's leadership in offshore renewable energy. A greater development of renewable energy sources is crucial to achieve the goals set out in the REPowerEU plan to get rid of Russian fossil fuels as soon as possible. Ahead of the visit, Commissioner Simson said: I look forward to seeing the potential of tidal energy and reiterating the Commission's support for the quick development of different renewable energy sources. The supply risks we are facing today make the case for home-grown and clean-energy producing technologies even more compelling. After the visit, the Commissioner will meet with Rémi Gruet, the CEO of the Ocean Energy Europe industry association, Richard Parkinson, representing project developer Tocardo, and Britta Schaffmeister, the CEO of the Dutch Marine Energy Centre.
