digital innovation challenge

The 10 shortlisted SMEs & startups of the European Commission's Digital Innovation Challenge presented their ideas based on the Commission’s portfolio of open and reusable digital solutions.

This happened during a 3-day Bootcamp event and in front of an inter-institutional jury represented by the IT leads of the European Parliament (EP), the Council of EU and the European Commission - Walter Petrucci, Acting Director-General of EP’s DG for Innovation and Technological Support, David Galloway, Director-General at Council of EU’s SMART and Mario Campolargo, Acting Director-General at DIGIT. The same inter-institutional team is at the heart of the organisation of the largest ICT Forum in the EU institutions – DIGITEC.

The 3 winning teams were announced at a virtual ceremony on 30 September:

  • Open Content/ OpenCityPlus introduces an open source e-government platform that offers support to local authorities in the digital transformation of their services.
  • CleverBooks/ Sustainable Digital Education provides augmented reality books and maps aiming to support future-ready skills for children around the world, addressing the growing workforce skills gap from an early stage.
  • Latitudo40/Earth Analytics aspires to provide everyone with easy access to satellite images by bringing together data and algorithms from multiple sources and providing straightforward information to understand our planet from above.
