Horizon 2020 funds new research projects to explore sustainable uses of resources

36 new research projects will receive around €235 million from Horizon 2020 to respond to climate change adaptation and mitigation, ensure food security, safeguard the natural resource base, promote alternatives to fossil fuel-based economies, and use marine resources sustainably while protecting the oceans. 

These projects were selected from the 236 proposals submitted last January for the Societal Challenge 2 calls of Horizon 2020 and will begin their research from October 2019. 

Of the selected projects, 14 will conduct research in Sustainable Food Security and share a budget of around €101,4 million, 14 will focus on Rural Renaissance with a budget of €71,7 million, and 8 will address Blue Growth with a share of €61,7 million.
