Four projects managed by the REA will take part in today's high-level conference 'EU research and innovation in our daily life' jointly organised by the European Parliament and the European Commission. The conference will showcase how EU-funded projects play a key role in improving our daily lives. If you cannot attend the event, follow the conference sessions via web streaming! Connect as of 14.00 to watch the coordinator of GRAWITON project Michele Punturo open the event together with Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament, Carlos Moedas, Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, and a number of high-level speakers. The detection of gravitational waves in 2015 provided ground-breaking information about the Universe. Building on this discovery, EU-funded scientists have now detected waves at three observatories, a first in astrophysics, making it possible to locate the signals’ origin and better apply the data they provide. Stefano Scafè from the Advanced Forest Fire Fighting project will give a presentation in the panel addressing security issues at 16.45. This project has worked on advanced forest fire fighting techniques and has developed a pellet made of extinguishing materials that can be dropped from a greater height. Two projects are taking part in the conference exhibition. The INCEPTION project innovates the 3D modelling of cultural heritage through time-dynamic 3D reconstruction of artefacts, built and social environments. Curators can then load the digital version of these features with interactive information that visitors can access on their mobile devices. The COURAGE project is compiling and analysing collections of cultural opposition in former socialist countries, making the collections more accessible for educational and research purposes and highlighting their importance as a testimony to anti-communist opposition in Europe. The EU has supported the GRAWITON project with €3.7 million funding and the AF3 project with nearly €13 million under the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Development. INCEPTION is receiving almost €4 million and COURAGE €2.5 million from the EU's Horizon 2020 programme. Details Publication date27 November 2018AuthorEuropean Research Executive AgencyLocationBrussels
