European Institutions Open Day 2018

To celebrate Europe Day, staff from REA welcomed the general public into the Berlaymont building on Saturday 5 May. During the Open Day, the successes of Horizon 2020-funded projects were presented through interactive demonstrations.

Among the 15 000 visitors (around 3 000 more than last year) was European Commission Vice-President for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness, Jyrki Katainen, who took particular interest in the eHERITAGE project. He even tried his hand at cutting-edge virtual reality applications that the project is developing.

The team were also pleased to have Director-General of DG RTD, Jean-Eric Paquet, as well as EAC Director-General, Themis Christophidou, assist in exhibiting projects.
Visitors to the Research and Innovation stands were particularly impressed by PERFORM. This project aims to investigate the effects of the use of innovative science education methods based on performing arts in fostering young peoples’ motivations and engagement with science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Other projects that took part were the MSCA-funded project, DaphNet, which aims to define an effective model for the preservation of multi-media interactive artworks. As well as, HAP4MARBLE, another MSCA project, that focuses on the restoration and preventive conservation of marble artworks.
