The Commission proposes budget amendment to the general budget 2018 to provide financial aid to Bulgaria, Greece, Lithuania and Poland hit by natural disasters in 2017. An amount of EUR 34 million should be mobilise through the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF).
- Greece was struck by an earthquake affecting the South Aegean region between Bodrum (Türkiye) and the island of Kos (Greece) causing damages to infrastructure, hospitals, & airports - €2.5 million in aid should help with the reconstruction.
- Bulgaria, Lithuania and Poland were struck by unusual heavy rainfalls and violent storms, which led to severe damage to basic infrastructure, drainage systems, transport, agriculture, cultural heritage sights and other assets. €2.3 million for Bulgaria, €12.3 million for Poland and almost €17 million for Lithuania will help to rebuild the affected regions.
