Energy statistics in the EU – renewables in the lead, moderation of energy demand, yet economic growth

energy statistical pocketbook 2019

Since 2013, renewable energy has been the leading source of electricity in the EU.

In 2017, the gross inland consumption and the greenhouse gas emissions of the EU were 8.8% and 16.4% below the 2005 level, whilst EU GDP* increased by 15.8%.

The above statistical facts and many more are available in the latest energy statistical pocketbook (2019 edition).

The statistical pocketbook on energy figures provides a summary of main statistical data for the EU as a whole and for each of its Member States on energy production and consumption, socio-economic indicators and the impact of the energy sector on the environment.  It also provides specific energy profiles for each EU country as well as details of progress towards the EU's 2020 climate and energy targets.

The statistical pocketbook 2019 is available online, and the printed version will be available soon.
