EU Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will deliver speeches, virtually, at 3 different events in the USA today. All of these involve transatlantic cooperation with the US government and energy stakeholders and exchange experiences and ambitions for the clean energy transition. These events come in a week in which Commission President Ursula von der Leyen addresses President Biden’s 2-day Climate Summit, and when climate issues are hitting the headlines on both sides of the Atlantic. The first event is a panel discussion on Just Transitions to a Global Clean Energy Future. In a debate about how to advance the agenda for a just transition around the world, the Commissioner will join US Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm. Hosted by the Center for Strategic International Studies (CSIS) and the U.S. Department of Energy, other panellists include India’s Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, Seamus O'Regan. The second event is a transatlantic dialogue on “Harmonizing Efforts to Achieve Net Zero" organised by Eurelectric and the Edison Electric Institute. It will bring together top industry leaders from the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Participants will discuss transatlantic cooperation for achieving net zero goals, including in legislation, technology innovation, investment, and finance. The third event, hosted by the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center, is a seminar about developing the offshore wind industry. Participants will discuss the state of the offshore wind industry and the opportunities it presents for meeting climate ambitions. It is part of a series of events organised by the Atlantic Council aimed at raising ambition in the fight against climate change.
