On Friday 30 September, Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will represent the Commission at the Extraordinary Energy Council in Brussels. The EU energy ministers will aim to reach a political agreement on the Commission’s proposal for a Council regulation on an emergency intervention to address high energy prices. The Commission put forward on 14 September a proposal for exceptional electricity demand-reduction measures, and measures to redistribute the energy sector’s surplus revenues to help reduce bills for EU citizens and businesses.

Commissioner Simson will also discuss with energy ministers further policy options to mitigate high gas prices, as well as the leaks of the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea. At the end of the meeting, the Commissioner will speak to the press alongside the Czech Presidency of the EU.

The doorsteps and the closing press conference will be livestreamed.
