Tomorrow, Thursday 24 November, Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson will represent the Commission at the Extraordinary Energy Council in Brussels, where she will present the Commission’s new proposal for a Market Correction Mechanism to limit excessive gas price spikes to the Ministers.

In the morning session, the EU energy ministers will aim to agree on two emergency measures proposed by the Commission to tackle the ongoing energy crisis: the proposal on enhancing solidarity through better coordination of gas purchases, exchanges of gas across borders, which was tabled on 18 October, and the proposal on the acceleration of permitting procedures for renewable energy projects, adopted on 9 November.

Over lunch, the Commissioner will discuss with the ministers the rising energy costs and the competitiveness of the EU industry.

The morning press doorsteps and a closing press conference with Commissioner Simson and the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU will be livestreamed on EbS.
