On 9th April, the 21st EU-China summit takes place in Brussels, co-hosted by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, High Representative Federica Mogherini, and European Council President Donald Tusk. EU and Chinese leaders will seek to strengthen bilateral cooperation. They will discuss trade and investment relations, including the fair and non-discriminatory treatment for their economic operators. They are also likely to express their support for the work of G20 and the implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change. As part of the summit, Climate Action and Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete, together with his Chinese counterpart, Zhang Jianhua, the Administrator of the National Energy Administration of China, will take part in the 8th annual EU-China Energy Dialogue. The agenda of this year’s dialogue will cover EU and China energy and climate policies and strategies, the transformation of the energy sectors, renewable energy and energy efficiency, reciprocal commercial opportunities in the energy sector and cooperation in global energy fora and initiatives. A Joint Statement on the Implementation of the EU-China Energy Cooperation will be signed.Commissioner Arias Cañete and the Administrator of the National Energy Administration of China will also meet representatives of the European companies active in China and affiliated to the EU Chamber of Commerce in China. The purpose of the event is to offer them a platform to present their clean energy technologies, raise their concerns and address challenges they face when trying to invest and establish business relations in China. Ahead of the summit, the Commission and the High Representative issued a joint communication stressing that neither the EU nor any of its member states can effectively achieve their aims with China without full unity.
