Commission supports Slovakia’s cultural industries

The European Commission has been providing tailor-made strategic advice to Slovakia through the Structural Reform Support Programme (SRSP) to support the development of cultural industries and foster their contribution to Slovakia’s economy.

The Slovak Ministry of Culture is preparing its new strategic framework to support the development of cultural and creative industries after 2020. The SRSP project provided a set of policy recommendations for this strategic framework and helped to identify concrete measures to develop better statistical information to inform policy-making and more accurately capture the contribution of the cultural industries to the economy. The support provided will also help to reinforce the capacity of the Ministry of Culture to design and implement future policy measures. The objective is to help authorities adopt coherent and effective measures for cultural industries and attract both private and public investment (European Structural and Investment Funds) into the sector. This will be particularly important in the recovery phase as the cultural sector has been hit by the current coronavirus crisis.

The Structural Reform Support Programme offers expertise to all EU countries for the implementation of growth-enhancing reforms. The support is based on request and is tailor-made for the beneficiary Member State. Since 2017, the programme has been supporting close to 800 reform projects in 27 Member States.
