Commission supports Romania's efforts to reform national education

The European Commission and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have contributed through the Structural Reform Support Programme (SRSP) to the implementation of the “Educated Romania” - initiative led by the Presidential Administration of Romania. The thematic policy briefs produced are aiming to propose reform avenues to improve the quality and inclusiveness of education in the country, namely by modernising the profession of teachers and school leaders, as well as by increasing equality and access to pre-school education. Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, said: "We are pleased that the support provided can help Romania address key challenges of their education system. High quality and inclusive education is key to providing the right skills and job opportunities and creating an inclusive society that works for people”. The Commission will continue to support Romania in addressing the country’s main education challenges, notably to prevent and reduce early school leaving. The SRSP offers expertise to all EU countries for the implementation of growth-enhancing reforms. Such support is based on requests and is tailor-made for the beneficiary Member State. Since 2017, the Programme has provided support to more than 550 projects in 26 Member States. More information on the project can be found here. (For more information: Stefan De Keersmaecker – Tel.: +32 229 84680; Sara Soumillion – Tel.: +32 229 67094)
