Additional funding for the Facility for Refugees in Türkiye

As a follow-up to the EU-Türkiye Statement of March 2016, the Commission decided in March 2018 to extend the Facility for Refugees in Türkiye with an additional EUR 3 billion (a 'second tranche').

It will bring the total budget for the Facility to EUR 6 billion. The Facility is financed partly by the EU budget and partly by EU Member States´ bilateral contributions. With the present amendment the Commission proposes to allocate €500 million to this year´s EU budget contribution to the second tranche which will come in addition to the €50 million already earmarked as humanitarian aid for this purpose.

€500 million comes from the available margins and €50 million from the budget on Humanitarian Aid.

This funding is needed in order to ensure a seamless follow up of successful Facility interventions funded earlier. Once approved by the Council and the European Parliament, the new funding will notably enable to continue paying the salaries for over 5 000 teachers who so far have provided education to over 300 000 refugee children in Türkiye.
